Welcome to the University South Foundation's Patterson Field Trip Grant Program, where classrooms and schools interested in this exciting educational initiative can apply for up to $250 from the Patterson Grant to reimburse transportation!
Groups of up to 40 students are eligible for a 2-hour tour of Patterson Observatory and Discovery Gardens, or you may schedule a trip to either attraction separately. Field Trips are currently offered on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9:30am to 12:30pm for 2nd–12th grades only.
Classes are divided into two groups and rotate between the Patterson Observatory and Discovery Gardens.
1. At the Patterson Observatory, Huachuca Astronomy Club volunteers offer students information about astronomy and a variety of telescopes, including a preview of the Ritchey Chrétien telescope located under the dome. Weather permitting, students will also safely observe the sun using special filtered lenses.
2. In the Discovery Gardens, Cochise County Master Gardeners give students a hands on experience as they learn about the plants and bugs that thrive in our desert environment and answer questions about local ecology.
To apply, complete and submit the form below and a Foundation representative will contact you within 7-10 days. If you have any questions or would like more information, contact the University South Foundation Office at 520-626-6594.
Once the Foundation has confirmed your field trip, a representative will contact you with details on receiving Patterson Grant transportation reimbursement. In the event of severe weather, you are encouraged to reschedule your visit. Rescheduling will not affect your grant funding.
We look forward to sharing these unique educational opportunities with you and your students!
Sincerely,
University South Foundation Board of Directors
