Applying for Instructor or Coach

Instructors: are “art centric” – they are responsible for ensuring the integrity of the art form is transmitted to the student through delivery of official content.

 

Coachesare “student centric” – they are responsible for facilitating the performance development journey of the individual student.

Jodo Coach level

Assistant Instructor is a member who has a level of current technical mastery of the art, and under supervision of an Instructor or Senior Instructor, is developing instruction skills.

Instructor is a member who has a level of current technical mastery of the art, combined with development of instruction skills, determined as appropriate for leading instruction.

Senior Instructor is a member who has a higher degree of current technical mastery of the art, combined with proven development of instruction skills, and instructing experience determined as appropriate to support, guide, and oversee the development of Instructors and Assistant Instructors.

Assistant Coach is a member who has a level of current technical mastery of the art, and under supervision of a Coach or Senior Coach is developing (performance) coaching skills.

Coach is a member who has a  level of current technical mastery of the art, combined with development of specific skills in coaching, determined as appropriate for performance development.

Code of Behaviour Agreement

I hereby acknowledge the following Code of Behaviour and agree that I will:

  • Through my role, provide a safe environment for the learning, development, and play of Kendo, Iaido and Jodo, consistent with the AKR Dojo Safety document which I have read.
  • Operate within the rules and spirit of Kendo, Iaido and Jodo, promoting fair play over winning at any cost.
  • Encourage and support opportunities for people to learn appropriate behaviours and skills.
  • Support opportunities for participation in all aspects of Kendo, Iaido and Jodo.
  • Treat each person as an individual.
  • Display control and courtesy to all involved with Kendo, Iaido and Jodo.
  • Respect the rights and values of every person regardless of their gender, ability, cultural background or religion.
  • Respect the decisions of referees, officials, instructors and administrators regarding the conduct of Kendo, Iaido and Jodo activities.
  • Wherever practical, avoid unaccompanied and unobserved one-on-one activity (when in a supervisory capacity or where a power imbalance will exist) with people under the age of 18 years.
  • Adopt appropriate and responsible behaviour in all interactions.
  • Adopt responsible behaviour in relation to alcohol and other drugs.
  • Adhere to any policies, regulations, and principles of anti-doping as relevant to Kendo, Iaido and Jodo.
  • Act with integrity and objectivity, and accept responsibility for my decisions and actions.
  • Ensure my decisions and actions contribute to a safe and harassment free environment.
  • Not tolerate harmful or abusive behaviours.
  • Place the safety and welfare of the practitioners above all else.
  • Help each person (practitioner, official etc) reach their potential - respect the talent, developmental stage and goals of each person and compliment and encourage with positive and supportive feedback.
  • Only undertake physical contact appropriate to the situation and necessary for the person’s skill development.
  • Comply with any policies, regulations, and principles of health, welfare and safety.
  • Be honest and not allow my qualifications to be misrepresented.
  • In a reasonable timeframe refresh or renew the currency of any of the requirements for certification that may expire during the period of my certification.

I hereby further acknowledge that should I breach any of the above code of behaviour, the AKR may take disciplinary action against me, which may include removing my certification as an Instructor, Coach or Officiator.
