AFL Executive Council Nomination Forms

Paper copies of this form can be picked up at the AFL Convention Office, or printed off of the event page on the AFL website, if you find that easier.

Unions select their representatives to sit on the AFL Executive Council.

Unions with more than 2500 members are entitled to elect two Vice Presidents and two alternate Vice Presidents.

Unions with more than 1000 members but less than 2500 elect one Vice President and one alternate Vice President.

The 999 Caucus (less than 1000 members) elects one male and one female Vice President and their alternates.

Each Labour Council can nominate a representative to sit on the AFL Executive Council who sits on their Executive and whose union is affiliated to both their Labour Council and the Federation of Labour.

Further nominations can be made from the floor of the convention; however, the person nominated must be a member of the Executive of the nominating Labour Council, a member of a local union, branch or lodge affiliated to that Labour Council and to the Federation of Labour. The convention as a whole shall then vote in accordance with 1.6.3 d) and f) of the Constitution.

Please read the AFL Constitution Article 1.6.3 – Terms of Conditions for Officers. The decision to stand for nomination as an officer of the AFL is one that should be well thought out and well-planned.

Delegates who want to let their names stand for the position of President and/or Secretary Treasurer will declare their intention and submit a written nomination form to the AFL office by the completion of business on the first day of convention.

If you are not successful in your running for President, you must have a signed nomination form for Secretary Treasurer, should you wish to drop down for that position.
