UUSF Day of Mindfulness

Saturday, March 1, 2025
10am - 4pm, onsite at UUSF
Whether ecological, political and/or economic, there are many causes of stress right now. You may have thought about taking up meditation to relieve stress. Or you may have thought that you don’t have time for meditation because there is too much to do. Either way, we welcome you to join us for a Day of Mindfulness - a day of practices in the Plum Village tradition founded by socially engaged Buddhist teacher, Thich Nhat Hanh. As our teacher has said, we cannot bring peace to the world if we do not have peace in ourselves. We cannot help others if we ourselves are burned out. A mindfulness practice allows us to recharge our batteries so that we can be our best selves in the world.

The day will include:

- guided sitting meditation

- a brief dharma talk

- mindful movements & walking

- BYO lunch (vegetarian if possible, in keeping with the Buddhist tradition of compassion)

- deep relaxation

- group sharing

In addition to a vegetarian lunch, we are asking all attendees to bring a yoga mat, if you have one. (If you do not, one will be provided.) Chairs will be provided for sitting meditation. If you prefer a cushion, please bring one.

Dana (Generosity)

Dana is the Buddhist practice of generosity. The members of Home Within Sangha are offering this Day of Mindfulness in gratitude to the UUSF community. If you have the means, we suggest a donation of $30 per person. All proceeds will go to UUSF. If you have the means to give more to cover someone else of lesser means, please consider it. Pay what you can, and nobody will be turned away for lack of funds. All donation amounts are confidential.
